Meet our speakers
Dr. Emily Savela
Emily Savela, Ph.D., earned her Bachelor of Science degree from the Milwaukee School of Engineering and completed her Ph.D. in Bioengineering at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). Her doctoral research focused on advancing molecular diagnostic technologies, including innovative approaches for antibiotic susceptibility testing and SARS-CoV-2 detection, providing a strong foundation for her work in medical technology innovation.
Dr. Emily Savela is an R&D Technology Development Engineer in Front End Innovation within the Medical Surgical business with Solventum, where she focuses on advancing early-stage technologies and translating emerging concepts into practical healthcare solutions. With a strong scientific foundation and a passion for innovation, Emily collaborates across multidisciplinary teams to explore new materials, processes, and product opportunities that can enhance patient care and clinical outcomes. Her work bridges research and product development, helping identify and mature technologies that support the future of medical and surgical devices while driving meaningful impact for healthcare providers and patients alike.
Outside of work, Emily volunteers with a local kitten rescue, dotes on her four cats, collects library cards, reads as much as she can, and tries her best to recreate restaurant meals at home.Dr. Venumadhav Korampally
Dr. Venumadhav Korampally is a Professor of Electrical Engineering at Northern Illinois University whose research focuses on affordable medical diagnostics, biosensors, nanotechnology, and MEMS-based technologies. He earned his M.S. and Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Missouri and has established an internationally recognized research program developing innovative point-of-care diagnostic platforms and nanostructured sensing materials. As an accomplished inventor, he holds multiple U.S. patents in diagnostics, biosensing, nanomaterials, and microfluidic technologies, reflecting his commitment to translating research discoveries into impactful real-world healthcare solutions.
His research has attracted funding from organizations including the U.S. Department of Energy, the National Science Foundation, and the Illinois Innovation Network. Notable projects include the development of affordable paper-based diagnostics for autoimmune disease management in underserved communities and advanced electron beam technologies for scientific research.
Donald Green
Donald Green is a thoughtful and results-driven business development manager with more than 15 years of experience in the diagnostics industry, including over six years at Cytiva. He brings strong expertise in diagnostics and assay development and is known for translating complex technical challenges into practical solutions. Donald is recognized for building trusted customer relationships through a collaborative approach, maintaining a strong focus on outcomes, and helping teams stay aligned on priorities that drive business impact.
